REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BUENOS AIRES — Vice President Jusuf Kalla (JK) met Indonesian citizens who live in Buenos Aires, Argentine. The meeting was held after he attended G20 Summit 2018.
In the meeting, JK discussed two main topics, which were about economic development in Indonesia and elections in April 2019. He admitted that economy in Indonesia is currently not at its best due to trade wars.
Indonesia's commodity prices are currently declining due to the weak economy and the trade war, JK said. However, according to JK, currently Indonesia's growth is still moderate and its growth is still better than some countries in the region.
"We can still survive growing above five percent. It means a moderate growth, compared to other countries because in this world (the economy) tends to decrease,” JK said in a press release on Monday (Dec 3).
JK appreciated Indonesian citizens who have worked hard overseas, including in Argentine. He said it shows the independence of citizens in encouraging economic progress in Indonesia.
“I see the extraordinary sacrifice," JK added.
On other hand, JK reminded that Indonesia will hold elections in 2019. He encouraged Indonesian citizens in Argentine to exercise their rights to vote in choosing the best leaders of the Indonesian nation.
“I expect you will choose the expected leader,” JK said.
JK said the elections in 2019 will be the most complicated one, due to many types of elections to be held at one time. He explained there are five elections at the same time.
